203,20 cm x 68,58 cm (80” x 27”)
In this piece, Le Lin created stamps of natural elements that are used as brush strokes: Mountain 山, Wood 木, Fire 火, Cloud 云, Water 水, Flower 花, Stone 石. The stamps are layered and combined to tell a story and paint a picture of a larger landscape: waterfalls falling from high cliffs, flowers blooming in spring, and woods standing together to build a forest. By turning language into stamps and printing them in layers, the traditional Shan Shui landscape painting is deconstructed, reassembled, and reimagined. How does language, when displaced and transported to new contexts, break apart to form new landscapes?
